Why have you introduced card scanning?
We hope that scanning your DoD issued ID at purchase is familiar from other locations on base like the Commissary. Card scanning is the first phase of an effort to create an improved and more personalized MCX customer experience.
Am I required to scan my card?
No. Scanning your card is voluntary at this time. At a future date, scanning will be required like it is at many other on-base locations.
What happens if I don’t scan my card?
Scanning is not required and is purely voluntary. If you choose not to scan your card your transaction will continue as normal. We hope you do choose to scan to help us develop better services for you faster.
If I scan my card will I get coupons, marketing, or deals?
Not yet, but you may in the future. When those become available, you may have the opportunity to opt-in to receive them. Right now, we are trying to learn how to best implement these services and scanning your card helps us do so.
Why should I scan my card?
By scanning your card, you will help us understand how to provide you with a personalized service in the future and improve our processes when we eventually extend to all bases.
Are you collecting any personal information about me?
Your privacy is important to us. As an additional step to safeguard your purchase privacy, our point-of-sale system will replace the display of your DoD issued ID number in our records with a unique generated ID number (pseudonym). This additional safeguard allows MCX to review customer journey data to optimize business practices and meet customer needs while maintaining your privacy. Other identifiers such as name and address will not be collected by scanning your card.
How will you use this information?
We hope to learn two things from this test. First, how well does the scanning process itself work for our you, and should we improve on anything before extending the roll out elsewhere. Second, by looking at sales data we hope to better understand the shopping patterns and thus needs of our customers. Both will help us offer you the products and services you need and personalize the shopping experience in the future.
How long will the DoD issued ID scanning be happening? Is it permanent?
Right now, this pilot is a test phase to help us develop the system and we plan to watch it closely for about six months. What we learn in this test will help us as when we extend the program, and eventually card scanning may be permanent and required at all locations. Depending upon results, there may be a pause between the pilot and full system roll out.
Why is this happening at this store? On this base? Is it happening everywhere?
To avoid confusion, we felt it important to implement at all stores on a base at the same time. The base leadership at both MCRDSD and MCB Hawaii volunteered for the pilot because they want to help develop the best possible service for you. When we roll out the full system, it will happen across the USMC.
